Yesterday was a fun-filled day here at Sundance. The big event was our friend/colleague Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Hit Record at the Movies. I attended with my fellow Offenders Justin, Anderson, Elaine and indie film guru John Sloss. Anderson already posted the live video stream of the event (click here). Justin took part when Joseph invited him to help shoot a scene from Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer featuring Joseph and “indie queen” Parker Posey (who still is hot, BTW) live on stage for an upcoming short video. Will be curious to see how that comes together and, of course, we’ll post the finished video on YOMYOMF when it’s done.

That’s Justin with his back to us.

Joseph really made sure there was plenty of audience interaction by doing everything from bringing up people who wanted to sing for a future project and answering interesting tweets (Best line of the night from Joseph during one of the conversations with an audience tweeter: “A hipster is someone who dresses up like an artist, but who doesn’t make shit.”).

The event was definitely akin to a rock concert with 1200 enthusiastic, screaming fans (as some of my fellow Offenders remarked, “I felt sooooo old.” BTW, I don’t share that sentiment). As Anderson pointed out already, the “panties dropping” highlight of the evening was when Joseph came out with his acoustic guitar and performed a lovely version of the song “Baby Mine” from the movie Dumbo.

It was also great seeing Jamie Chung, Guest Offender Lauren Tom and our YOMYOMF YouTube Network partner KevJumba in a video directed by Joseph. They all kicked ass and it was awesome that Joseph featured an Asian American cast in a non-stereotypical and interesting way. Thanks to Joseph and all the folks at HitRECord for the invite and hospitality.

But as fun as the event was, neither that nor the excellent film Beasts of the Southern Wild (which Justin, Elaine and I saw today), were the highlights of the day. Nope, the true highlight was the snow that started falling this afternoon just in time for some of the family members and kids who had been staying with us and were leaving yesterday to have one final snow day adventure.

Actually, another highlight might be what’s happening right now as we hang out with friends in our awesome cabin and try to put a dent in the fridge full of food we have stored away:

Organic meals cooked to order and it’s fucking delicious to boot! Had some flank steak, poached salmon, Parmesan bread, grilled veggies and Greek rice tonight. Foodie heaven for sure. No Burger King run tonight.

On a sad note, Offender Anderson is leaving for L.A. in a few hours. But Justin, Elaine and I will be sticking it out until Sunday so more reports to come.
