Yesterday afternoon, Patrick Donahoe, Postmaster General of the USPS, held a press conference announcing a limited edition run of “Fast 6″ first class postage stamps.
“As part of our ongoing rebranding campaign,” announced Donahoe, “we want to let people know that we are not the stodgy institution they may think we are. This is definitely not your parents’ post office.”
The stamps will be available for purchase until Labor Day. As long lines in cities like Cleveland, Trenton, and Daly City have shown, hardcore philatelists and Fast and Furious enthusiasts alike are swooping in to buy the stylized stamps.
“We also want the world to know that we embrace digital media, and to this end,” continued Donahoe, “we are announcing an on-line contest to select which photos of the Fast 6 stars should be featured on our next run of stamps. These will be issued on December 1, and we encourage everyone to log onto www.fast6usps.org and cast their vote.”
So far the USPS has released candidate photos for Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, and Paul Walker.
Voting will be closed on August 31.
