Vancouver actor Harrison Xu and actress Quynh Mi portray a pair of emotionally distant suburban Canadian siblings
On the day of the production, I woke up at 6:00AM for my 7:30AM call. I had to get all my thoughts in order. I realized I was missing cigarettes for props, so I looked around my dad’s house and bummed a few cigarettes and lighter from him before hopping into my rental Toyota Matrix. I was a little nervous because I had never worked with any of the cast and crew before. I knew my producer Yogi Omar from the festival circuit for over three years… but it was our first time working together. Being the resourceful producer that Yogi was, he had convinced his family to let us shoot at their house.
I was of course extremely grateful that we had gathered an entirely volunteer crew of nine. We knew we had to be sharing a lot of duties. It sort of reminded me of film school days except that everyone on the crew was extremely professional. We had several Brits on our crew including DP Toby Gorman, his wife Mital who was helping us on art, and Daniel Brand who did sound and boom for us. Yogi brought his make-up artist friend Lindsay MacLean who did some realistic blood make-up on top of her duty to make the three actors looking beautiful.
