The YOMYOMF Network: The Woman who Sees the Shadow People

  • February 2, 2012 12:02 am

“I want to make it clear that I have no interest in doing any sort of show for your channel. So do you still want to meet up?”

I’ve previously blogged about how one of the perks of overseeing the creative content for our upcoming YOMYOMF YouTube Network is the chance to meet interesting people I would otherwise not have access to (see examples here and here). And from the stories I heard about “Jenny” (not her real name), she certainly fit under the “interesting” category so even if she didn’t want anything to do with our network, if she was open to meeting—why not?

Oh, and Jenny’s an alleged psychic who has a special “relationship” with the shadow people.

Part of the challenge of putting together our YouTube network is making sure that we have a wide variety of programming. So I’m on the lookout for appropriate ideas in every genre—scripted and unscripted, animation, comedy, action, food, how to, fashion, sports, music, etc…

Premonition Dreams

  • August 4, 2010 12:30 am

In a previous blog, I mentioned that dreams have often inspired writers. Now, I will write about the time I thought I was psychic because I was having dreams which seemed to be connected to the future.

This only happened during a short period of time when I was in college. My theory is that during this time, my brain cells were functioning on overdrive and perhaps I was therefore able to extend brain activity into my psychic cells. Now that I have fallen into a black hole of brain vapidity, I no longer have premonition dreams.

It wasn’t like I knew what was going to happen or that I got a play-by-play of events that were to follow. It was more like something which you could brush off as coincidence would occur the next day. But it happened so often that I started announcing the contents of my dreams to people when I woke up – my sister or my room-mate, just in case.

They were small things like “I saw snakes,” or “I dreamt of a place called ‘Ogden’,” and then when we saw a man bicycling with a python wrapped around his neck or the name “Ogden” popped up in print somewhere the next day, I would say, “You see?” and whomever I told would be wowed by that for a split second.

True Supernatural Tales From Japan

kayako1The final entry in my month-long celebration of all things Halloween

The big night is finally upon us and that means my last Halloween-themed blog. I’ve always enjoyed reading about “real-life” stories of the supernatural so I thought it’d be a fitting way to end my series with a quick sampling of a few paranormal happenings from Japan—a country that definitely loves its ghost stories. Happy Halloween! Wishing everyone a fun and safe time! Don’t forget to submit photos of your costumes. Info here.

Why Are White People In Horror Movies So Stupid And Annoying?

  • October 21, 2009 1:06 am

paranormal_activityAnother entry in my month-long celebration of all things Halloween

A number of comedians of color, most famously Eddie Murphy in his comedy concert film Delirious, have joked about how idiotic white people often are in horror flicks (i.e. staying in a haunted house instead of getting the fuck out). Well, I finally got around to seeing Paranormal Activity, the new out of nowhere horror hit currently in theaters, and it’s the perfect example of the dumb things white people do (or don’t do) when confronted with a supernatural evil. I think the film is well made and I can see why its old-fashioned scares are resonating with audiences, but I found it hard to lose myself in the movie when I kept wanting to scream to the characters, “what the fuck is wrong with you?!”
