We’re Going Dark on Wednesday for #StopSOPA Day

  • January 17, 2012 9:14 pm

Yep, we’re going to go dark on Wednesday to join our Internet brethren to protest against current legislation in Congress that could potentially curb speech rights and allow content holders (i.e. the studios) to shut down sites immediately without initial court orders. You can read more about the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and it’s weaker cousin, Protect IP Act (PIPA), over at Gizmodo.

Although it looks like SOPA is dying a slow death in Congress, and the fact that President Obama has publicly stated that he doesn’t support SOPA, we still need to go all V for Vendetta and stand up for net neutrality. Because we know, if SOPA does get passed, then YOMYOMF and other blogs and sites could potentially be shut down.

What Would You Go To The Wall For?

I have never held up an angry sign, I have never linked arms with someone and blocked the entrance to a building, I have never sent an angry letter to my congressman, I have never gotten on a bullhorn and exhorted a crowd not to take it anymore, I have never joined a candle lit procession singing “We Shall Overcome,” I have never chained myself to anything, and for all these things, I am not proud.

What would I take a bullet for?  What would I risk losing my job for?  What would be worth getting arrested for?

Japanese Porn Actresses Get No Respect in the Muslim World

Maria-Ozawa-02

Ahem, now that I’ve got your attention… This is Maria Ozawa, arguably the biggest Japanese Adult Video (AV) Star. She’s of French-Canadian and Japanese descent, which makes her “exotic” looks a big hit in Japan and abroad. Also known as “Miyabi”, she’s wildly popular in other Asian regions, especially Southeast Asia. She’s branched out into acting, well non-porn acting anyway (a girl can’t do bukkake forever, right?), co-starring in a Taiwanese slasher movie called Invitation Only , which did have copious amounts of nudity and sex scenes involving her but I digress… Anyhoo, Miyabi’s next project was to be an Indonesian sex comedy called Menculik Miyabi (Kidnapping Miyabi). The basic plot is this: Two horny teens see Maria Ozawa in Indonesia (she’s vacationing). Since they are her biggest fans, they decide to kidnap her and in the end, learn about life and love. Before you say it, I know it has “rape fantasy” written all over it. But, it’s supposed to be a romantic comedy, in the vein of Weird Science, I guess.

Hollywood and Asians: Why Protests Alone Won’t Change Anything

  • August 31, 2009 7:02 pm

thegoods_kenjeong01The other day I was talking to an acquaintance who was very involved in the recent protests against the film The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. I’m sure most of our readers know about the scene from that movie which has outraged some Asian Americans: Ken Jeong plays a car salesman who gets assaulted by his white co-workers after another salesman, played by Jeremy Piven, invokes Pearl Harbor. You can read about it here.

Now, this acquaintance was very passionate about protesting this film, as well as the whitewashing of the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender. He planned to participate in on-going actions against these two films because of the “vital” need for us to demand that Hollywood increase its representation of Asian (Americans) and to portray us more accurately.
