Herbert Wong aka Tom Dong

In a still-developing story that’s as bizarre as it is tragic, struggling adult film actor Stephen Clancy Hill (aka Steven Driver) allegedly utilized a prop Samurai sword and promptly went on a berserk tirade at the Van Nuys, CA offices of porn video distributors Ultima DVD, where he also apparently lived. Hill attacked a co-worker, and two others who came to the victim’s aid, badly injuring two and killing the third, identified as Herbert Hin Wong of Van Nuys Canoga Park.  Wong who, like Hill, was also an adult performer (stage name “Tom Dong”), was set upon by Hill after he and another co-worker heard screams and came to the rescue. He was pronounced dead from multiple stab wounds after being rushed to Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

Hill, who witnesses described as fleeing the scene in a 1996 blue Toyota Rav4 with California license plate 5YTC 423, remains at large at little under 24 hours after the rage.

Wong, 30, worked both on the production side and in front of the camera as an actor. Per IMDB, his credits included such titles as “Perverted Planet 4,” “Hookers and Blow 3″ and “Kristina Rose: Dirty Girl.”

Investigators and witnesses alike are still not clear as to what drove Hill to the violent rampage but, he was apparently asked to vacate the venue and was told he could no longer reside there a few weeks earlier.

“[Hill] wasn’t performing up to standards and a few weeks ago he was told he would have to leave,” LAPD detective Joel Price told the LA Weekly. “They weren’t happy with his product and he had been given a date of [June 2] to leave…He knew today was the day he had to be gone.”

Additionally, a source who knew and worked with both men told Adult Video News that both men were close friends and referred to them as “the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker of porn.” Wong reportedly often helped get his friend Hill roles and various video gigs.

Other reports based on circulated emails among adult industry figures allege that a good number were frightened by Hill’s transient lifestyle, open display of weapons and general instability. He reportedly bragged that he had links to organized crime.

Anyone with information about Hill and the attack is asked to contact LAPD West Valley Division (818) 374-7730. Ultima DVD has also just announced a $2000 reward for Hill’s capture.

*UPDATE Acting on a tip from witnesses, LAPD officers and SWAT units converged Sunday on the alleged murderer Hill and surrounded him on a craggy cliff in the West Valley section of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. Hill, holding what is believed to be the murder weapon to his throat, threatened suicide while keeping the police at bay for hours until he suddenly leapt off the cliff’s edge as the authorities closed in. (see photo below) He was pronounced dead at the scene.
