You get a guest starring role on Dexter, they smile. You get an interview on CNN, they nod with approval. But if you score a spot hawking Salon Pas or boba drinks on an in-language (insert appropriate ethnic group) commercial for your local international TV station, they turn into drooling, screaming 13 year old Hannah Montana groupies. Do not ever buy meat or produce at Whole Foods and leave the price tag or receipt around. If Asian parents come in contact with either article, they will immediately go into anaphylactic shock and aimlessly roam around the house for weeks quoting the outrageous prices you paid for the ground turkey and butternut squash.
That’s hilarious. Asian parents love to talk about food. The most interested my parents have been in anything I said was when I mentioned I’d found a worm in a soup I was cooking.

Re the “overpriced organic food”: it’s the opposite for me and my mom. I have a heart attack every time I discover she bought another truckload of organic “everything”!!! Some of that stuff is 3x the $$$$$$$ (or MORE) the price of the regular “poisonous/adulterated” stuff. And I want to take away her TV and newspapers too so she will STOP buying the gazillion different “miracle cures/potions/creams/pills/whatever”…..
I hear Whole Foods has their employees peel off the outer layer of their lettuce heads once an hour, to keep them looking fresh and perky.
A binful of perfectly good lettuce leaves in the trash. No wonder Al Qaeda hates us! ha! suck it, bin laden!

You haven’t lived if u haven’t killed ur own live chicken or fish. Yeah, its mortifying to know how that how they did it in the old country but you taste the difference from frozen Safeway!
Our parents may know more about “Organic” than what we think esp. if they have the green thumb in their genes. Wintermelon and watermelon the size of two heads fertilized by last night’s dinner.
