One Bad Thing

Amy Bishop, the biology professor who shot three of her colleagues to death during a faculty meeting in which she was denied tenure. It’s awful. Tragic. But I have to confess that, for me, this is a good thing masquerading not exactly as a bad thing, but perhaps a bad thing with a silver lining, because we finally have some gender and class parity on the “going postal” front. The woman is 42, a Harvard educated neurobiologist, a mother and a professor working at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
She wasn’t a man. She didn’t live at home with her mother. Far as I know she wasn’t convinced the federal government was out to get her (maybe just the tenure committee). Now I don’t know whether she heard voices in her head or not, but she basically sounds like an accomplished white woman. Not your average lone gunman stockpiling an arsenal in the attic. Point is, American psychos now come in all flavors.

Whitman, Cho, Muhammad, Ferri, Harrison and now Bishop.

We can hold our heads up with pride, for we truly are a melting pot. Or crazy quilt. Or melted crayons. You know what I mean.

i can’t believe we now live in a world where employers, managers, senior execs, etc. have to take into consideration whether or not their juniors/employees will kill/shoot them if they deliver less than positive news.
i imagine there are people up there who either promote someone out of fear of death so as to pass on the potential problem to someone else.
I’m sure HR is going to come up with a term for this.
I would say I’m offended but in a weird way Alfredo is right.
Yeah…..I always CRINGE when some Asian has committed some heinous crime in this country….or any publicized crime or transgression. Murder and “spying” are especially attention-grabbing.
@Roger….I’ve worked with a few unstable types in the past, and yup….everyone is afraid to “upset” them. SCARY.
Sadly, mental breakdowns are equal opportunity.
We had a couple of scary people at my work too. My co-workers and I had our escape routes planned out, anticipating the day they would get fired and come back and shoot up the place. Both of the people I’m thinking about purportedly did own guns, so I took my escape planning seriously.
Heard today she had an IQ of 180. About as high as one can get and still function.
Often those with high IQs are deficient in other areas, like those telling you not to shoot people with a motherfucking gun when you don’t get your way. Or, not to live in Alabama.
