Being back in the states after a short time away in Asia has been a windy, over priced, but stomach satisfying start. Of course I can eat beef noodles, rice plates, hot pot, street food, and deep fried bugs til my heart contents. But while I was traveling abroad, I truly missed some of my favorite, easy to get, taken for granted type meals. On the top of my list would be Mexican food…specifically carne asada fries and a wet burrito. I can’t wait to get to the bay for a Gordo’s quesadilla and My Taco down the street.

What kind of food do you miss and crave while you are away from home?

Italian
Sushi
Korean
Chinese noodle soup
In N Out
I forgot about In N Out. Maybe for lunch.
well, I’m living in Europe at the moment and I really miss Vietnamese food, which is not common where I am. I also miss dim sum. I don’t crave Mexican food yet but I am definitely looking forward to my first burger when I return to the US…
Pizza. With everything on it except anchovies.
My grandma’s cooking. Mmmmm!
I miss Hawaii comfort food from local places like Zippys and Sidestreet Inn. I also miss Hawaiian staples like poke, lau lau and kalua pork. Sure, I can find it here in Cali (barely), but it just ain’t the same.
Micky D’s
I love My Taco too – probably too much. Gorged on their bbq lamb taco and potato hard shell tacos this weekend. And paying for it still.
When I’m in LA, all I want is the rich, ethnic or old school American stuff – taco trucks, korean bbq, szechuan, Shanghai soup dumpling, burgers, and grilled cheese. But when I was in the land of meat (Argentina) and fried food (New Orleans), I was dying for anything green.
