Yep, this ain’t a joke. There are some ancient Japanese scrolls that depicts a “fart battle.” The whole scroll, which is called He-Gassen (literally fart battle) depicts farting on everything — on cats, in bags, and usually, to propel things or even break walls down with the sheer power of flatulence!

Here are some examples:

Christie’s, the famous auction house, sold a collection of these scrolls for $1500 some years ago, so hey, to each his own, right? When I was a kid at camp, a bunch of us would fart in a jar and throw matches in it. But, to think that the 19th century Japanese had such lethal gas as to use it as a weapon, makes you wonder why they weren’t more powerful.
