If you’ve spent eons of time on the Internet like I do, you’ve probably giggled at the Dramatic Ground hog and all its iterations. There were literally hundreds of different versions — Star Wars, Dr. Evil, 007, Kill Bill are some major highlights. Well, it looks like a new rodent is going to supercede this internet meme’s notoriety.
It all started with an accidental but perfectly captured, one-of-a-kind photo. A couple posing in the outdoors, setting up their camera on auto, when a curious squirrel scurries in front of the camera’s lens and the rest his history…

This photo was taken by Melissa Brandt and National Geographic posted this image on their website. Here’s her take on this classic photo:
My husband and I were exploring Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park-Canada when we stopped for a timed picture of the two of us. We had our camera set up on some rocks and were getting ready to take the picture when this curious little ground squirrel appeared, became intriqued with the sound of the focusing camera and popped right into our shot! A once in a lifetime moment! We were laughing about this little guy for days!!
Since being featured on the NatGeo site, well, the Interwebs got their grubby little hands on the photo, creating a new meme called the crasher squirrel. So, begins the endless hours of quirky and timewasting fun, because guess what? The crasher squirrel is now turning up everywhere. Here are some precious moments:

Negotiating for Laura and Euna's release

"Making it so" with Capt. Picard and the Enterprise Crew

Tiger ready to channel Bill Murray in Caddyshack
See, the Crasher Squirrel is everywhere. Just like Forrest Gump or the bald guy from Fringe. Kudos goes to Mashable and Boing Boing for this story.

[...] me what it really resembles. Come on, you know what I’m getting at. And if you don’t, maybe our old furry friend can make it [...]
