Asians Scare Palin Out of Hawaii

I found this so humorous from The Daily Beast: Young Sarah Palin went to four colleges including Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu, which she and a friend only lasted  for one semester. According to her insightful tome Going Rogue, Palin writes:  “Hawaii was a little too perfect. Perpetual sunshine isn’t necessarily conducive to serious academics for eighteen-year-old Alaska girls.”

Yeah, right. According to The New Republic, it is learned that Palin’s father, Chuck Heath, gave a different account to [Scott] Conroy and [Shushannah] Walshe (authors of  another bio, ‘Sarah From Alaska’). According to him, the presence of so many Asians and Pacific Islanders made her uncomfortable: “They were a minority type thing and it wasn’t glamorous, so she came home.”

This is just too rich. I bet the young Sarah at the time was confused, thinking to herself: “Wait a darn heck of a minute… I thought we beat the Japs in World War II? How come they’re still here?”

(Thanks Collin, for sending in this story.)

  1. That’s true for most people though. Take anyone out of their original background and make them a minority in a new place, and that would make him or her uncomfortable.

  2. But you guuuuyyyys, Todd is 1/32nd Eskimo so she knows ALL ABOUT how oppressed slanty-eyed indigenous peoples are. It’s true cause she said so on the campaign trail!

P.S. I’d still hit that though.

  3. Sarah obviously came home cause she couldn’t deal with the Yellow Fever that made her loins tremble!

    Go wasabi, Alaska girl!

  4. When I was in Alaska in ’08, several locals told me that Alaskans love Hawaii because of they’re similar kick-back lifestyles. Maybe it doesn’t apply to their rich and sheltered Wasilla residents.

  7. You Hawaiians are the biggest bunch of bigots I have ever met anywhere in the world I lived on Oahu for a year and now I know what it is like to be a second class citizen. Why don’t you vote for another leftist that will make sure there is a can of Spam on every table and see what you will get. You sleep in the bed your make. Get real. Aloha y’all

  9. When you have been a minority all of your life, then diversity does not bother you. When you hear Sarah Palin make negative comments about Michelle Obama, you then understand her lack of understanding of diversity. Palin’s family was never subjugated, exploited or targeted for elimination. This report just underscores her ignorance of people of color. What will she do in 2012? Read some of the reactionary comments on this page. You begin to see the ignorance of a large sector her supporters. Sad but true.
Wonder what were her interaction was with Native Americans in Alaska?
