For those of you who are on a mission to find the chinkiest holiday gift for your loved one, here’s a suggestion that comes from loyal reader Chris:
It’s the Sushi Service for Two! If the Chinky Chinese figurine dude isn’t reason enough to buy something meant to be used to serve the Japanese-iest of foods, the product description itself should clinch it:
Serving sushi on regular dinner plates just doesn’t do this artful food justice. This whimsical set is a sushi sensation to tempt the eyes, as well as, the palate.
This 6-piece set includes:
– 2 serving plates
– 2 dipping bowls & holders
– 2 sets of chopsticks
It even comes in its own chinky box:
Only $16.99 so get yours here. It’s actually sort of cute in a chinky kind of way. Fuck it, I’m buying a set for myself.

I don’t know whether to cringe to get the word out that Philip has truly gone over to the dark side with his recent flurry of product promotions.
are you serious? promoting racial caricature like this? even the other Phil “Apologist Asian Man” Yu has called out the racism in products with the slit eyes and conical hats.
also, while I don’t take offense to Quentin and Koji latest “Chink” movie. why is it that the other Asians love to tack on “Chinky” to everything recently?
in this case, shouldn’t it be “Jappy” and “Nippy” given the origins of sushi? or do all Asians look the same to Philip?
but that can’t be the case, because in the biggest S.Korean movie of 2011 (The Front Line) the term “Chink” was thrown around everywhere to refer to the Chinese army.
I guess who needs white racists when you have your own selling out with hapas in CAPE and Broadway and perpetuating the racism.
and I believe the term “gook” originated in the Korean War to refer to Koreans? so let’s be equal opportunity offenders for real and start using that too.
@Crazy MMer You do realize that like a lot of Philip’s posts, this is supposed to be tongue in cheek and he’s poking fun at the racist absurdity of this product? And the reason he’s using chinky instead of the other ethnic slurs is to point out how stupid it is to use an image of a Chinese guy for something that’s Japanese? Come on, brother, stop perpetuating the stereotype that Asians have no sense of humor!
I don’t see any hint of sarcasm or mockery in his post – and I constantly watch Onion News and think it’s brilliant. there’s a fine art to satire that Phil hasn’t mastered whatsoever if you’re trying to rationalize it that way.
which is worse: failure as a writer or just plain auto-racist?
so solly you think this chink is a robotic according to your internalized racism, or apologism.
what I do see is tons of product placements, and this one is blatant with posting the links to the company’s website.
at least post a petition or something. like I said, even apologist AM Phil Yu posts “that’s racist”
Agree with crazy MMer that posts like this should include obvious and redundant statements like “that’s racist” so guys like him with more “special” needs will get the point.
yes, either include more qualifiers or remove the direct link to the vendor so special needs people like me don’t bitch about the blatant racism of you sellouts.
how does it feel Mira to be a racist tool when you are sleeping with the white devil?
I just clicked the link that was in the story from “chis” a twitter reader and his tweet says “Tacky, offensive dishware >_< http://joieshop.com/e/item.asp?ItemCode=10249&CatCode=194&s=0910JBA cc: @yomyomf @angryasianman"
So I will take this as it was meant as a joke
That is very Orientalist… Hm… An Oriental Christmas gift?
@akimbobo: “oriental” might’ve gotten a pass if you’re going for benefit of the doubt.
however, given the track record of the female bloggers here constantly gushing over their white South African boyfriends and David Henry Hwang constantly writing plays about AF/WM couples, I remain skeptical the so called “offenders” aren’t sellouts as usual like kkken Jeong.
the only few respectable ones here are the actors who have called out the racist BS.
