Song 36: “Gypsy,” Fleetwood Mac.
Here it is: nostalgic AM radio gold from childhood. What has always intrigued me about the song, besides the song itself, is that “the velvet underground” is mentioned in the very first line. Is it possible that soft folk rockers Fleetwood Mac were making a reference to jagged proto art punkers “The Velvet Underground?” I have no idea, but I’d like to think so. I much prefer my stereotypes to be shattered than reinforced.
